Tarom Cabin Baggage Allowance

Tarom will allow a passenger to take on board one piece of hand baggage, with size and weight restrictions being imposed.

  • Maximum Dimensions: For trips on Boeing and Airbus jets, cabin luggage should not exceed maximum dimensions of 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm or (22 in. x 16 in. x 8 in.)
  • The maximum on ATR 42/ATR 72 airplanes is limited to only 35 cm x 30 cm x 20 cm (14 in. x 12 in. x 8 in.). 
  • Weight of cabin baggage: The weight of the cabin bag must not exceed 10 kg or 22 lbs. 
  • Personal item: On board a plane, one passenger can carry one personal item besides his cabin baggage preferably a purse or laptop bag, that could fit under the seat in front of him/her.

Tarom Checked Baggage Allowance

The total baggage that can be checked in is as follows for Tarom and depends on the fare class:

  • Economy Class: One standard checked bag weighing up to 23 kg (50 lbs) with a maximum linear dimension not exceeding 158 cm (62 in), length + width + height
  • Business Class: Up to three pieces of baggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg.
  • Overweight baggage: SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus passengers can transport an extra checked bag weighing 23 kg free of charge.

the cases of baggage exceeding 23 kg or/and larger than the allowed dimensions are subjected to the over-weight regime, according to Tarom. The rate for overweight baggage over 23 kg is between €50 and €200 depending on the zone.

Tarom allows passengers to take sports equipment with them as checked luggage, though under some conditions:

  • General Allowance: Sports equipment weighing up to 23 kg (50.5 lbs) and with dimensions up to 158 cm (62 in) constitutes one ordinary checked item.
  • Special Equipment Fees: Sports equipment, for example, skis, golf clubs, or fishing equipment – these could be eligible for special concessions or extra fees. Equipment for golf/ski/fishing will incur a fee of around €30 – €90, depending on the travel zone.
  • Overdimensional Items: Dimensions of sports equipment over and above the standard size would incur extra fees

Items with dimensions of over 203 cm (79.92 in) must be approved by Tarom and are considered cargo and carry a fee.

Musical Instruments

There are two categories of transporting musical instruments:

  • In-Hand: Items below the in-hand measurement may be brought onboard with a passenger on the same flight as a personal item.
  • Checked Baggage: An instrument that does not fit within cabin dimensions must be checked in a hard case to minimize the likelihood of damage during travel.

As an added precaution, travelers are required to loosen the strings of their stringed instruments before flying. Cabin crew may, at their discretion, permit larger instruments to accompany a passenger in the cabin if they have cabin space available for them.
