Swiss Airlines Cabin Baggage Allowance

SWISS offers Economy Class passengers to take one cabin baggage plus one personal item. Business and First Class are allowed two cabin baggage pieces plus one personal item. In Economy, the carry-on baggage must not exceed 8 kg or 17.6 lbs, while Business and First Class can take up to 2 pieces weighing 8 kg each. All bags should fit in the overhead or under the seat in front. Extra small items accepted are a coat, umbrella, camera, or reading material.

All baggage carried by passengers exceeding cabin baggage allowance should be checked in. Check-in should be done at least 40 minutes before departure for European flights and 60 minutes for intercontinental flights.

SWISS has various checked baggage allowances depending on the route, fare, and frequent flyer status:

  • Economy Light: No free checked baggage
  • Economy Classic: 1 piece at 23 kg
  • Economy Flex: 1 piece at 23 kg
  • Business Class: 2 pieces weighing up to 32 kg
  • First Class: 3 pieces weighing up to 32 kg

Sporting Gear and Musical Instruments 

Sporting equipment can be carried free of charge as checked bags, subject to there being space available on board provided these are packaged appropriately. Amongst sporting equipment admitted: Ski equipment, Golf bags, Diving Equipment, Bicycles, etc.

The maximum weight accepted is 32 kg or 70 lbs for sporting equipment. Special handling charges apply; only pre-registered items; and if the sporting equipment is beyond the standard size dimensions, more charges will apply.

Musical Instruments

When size requirements are met, and space is available on the aircraft, musical instruments may be carried in as carry-on baggage. The following are the instrument sizes to fit into the specified measurements: Cabin: 55 x 40 x 23 cm An additional seat is available if needed for a larger instrument

Carry-on items larger than acceptable size should be checked. For all instruments, SWISS highly recommends using hard cases to prevent damage during transportation. High-value instruments may need special handling and insurance.
